Nancy Gyes operates Power Paws Agility with her husband Jim Basic in San Jose, California.

Power Paws Agility is located on a 15-acre ranch in San Jose, California, in the East Foothills overlooking Silicon Valley. Owners Nancy Gyes and Jim Basic are nationally recognized agility trainers and competitors. Both are National Agility Champions and both have represented the United States in nternational agility competitions, Jim with his Border Collie Mick, and Nancy with her Border Collies Scud and Riot. Together they have created one of the largest and most competitive agility training schools in America.

STUART MAH

Conversational Agility

Stuart is a six-time agility champions finalist, including 1991 National Champion. He was included in the USDAA Agility Hall of Fame in 1991. Stuart has a training facility in Florida. He offers national training seminars and judges for all major agility organizations.


Behind The Redwood Curtain Agility -Kathy Pavlich

"...a bare bones starting point for agility enthusiasts everywhere."

Kathy lives in Eureka California and has been very creative in finding agility resources, both by traveling many miles to attend agility seminars and by bringing agility trainers to Eureka. Kathy has a complete set of very professional agility equipment, built by her husband Gerry, on which she and her friends train using ideas from several agility publications, including Clean Run.

Kathy is responsible for organizing a now favorite annual event, the Agility Demo at the Humboldt County Fair. Several of us have traveled the 300 miles North to Eureka to particapate with our Beardies. Jack Buhite was delighted to be the judge in August '99.


Advice for the Novice's First Run -Ann Krafcheck and Helix Fairweather

Ann speaks from the perspective of the Master's level handler. She and Tasha went to the AKC Nationals in '97. Her young Beardie Drake keeps her on her toes! This last year Tasha earned the Versatility Excellent Title, an all around Performance award from the Bearded Collie Club of America.

Helix speaks as a Novice, explaining what she finds works for her and Brady at this level.


Advice for the Novice Gambler -Jack Buhite

Jack handles Skyedance and Caper and particularly loves Games, including, Gamblers, Snooker, and Jumper. He has attended seminars with Nancy Gyes, Jim Basic, Stuart Mah and the Boltons and has brought his own trial experience to bear in writing this article.
