SPECIALIST TITLE AND CLASSIFICATION
This title will be available for any CPE registered dog over 15 months of age. This title was created mainly for the senior dogs so they can still play at a lower jump height, and it will also benefit young dogs that may not be ready physically to jump their full height. The Specialist dog must enter at 8" lower than its permanent jump height, and the dog will run only Level 3 classes. All Specialist dogs will be scored using "small dog time" for Level 3, and will place as an individual class.

A Specialist Champion (SpCh) will need to obtain a total of 750 points, which must include at least 4 legs in 4 of the 7 classes offered by CPE, handler choice.

Brin and I did some CPE this weekend.  We had a blast.  This was the,first time we'd played any games other than NADAC Gamblers where it was,up to me to decide the best strategy for him.  It was a GREAT learning,experience.  I highly recommend this venue for newbies as it is far,less intimidating (especially in a one ring trial!) than some of the,other venues.

Brin got a bunch of legs but I'm not sure how to format them and,haven't had time to figure that out yet...he may even have a couple,titles, but again...not entirely sure :-)  The event was held in a barn,with a very deep sand surface.  Warning...this is not a good surface,for either dog or person as when you plant your feet to push off, you,tend to slip.  My knee was in shreds after one run (had to wear the,brace I haven't worn for three years!) and Brin was coming in very,close to the jumps to take off so he could be sure he was getting a good take-off.  On the positive side, I was pretty impressed that he's learned so much about jumping since our seminar with Susan Salo this summer that he was able to make the adjustment!

So I came home with a happy dog, a happy person (loved the games) and sore legs.  I also brought home a couple things that obviously need work...I was able to try a couple handling strategies I hadn't used before!

There is a really great pic of him tipping the teeter on the Jackpot page that I will undoubtedly buy :-)  The pics in the Standard run are of us getting set up at the start, and then one of him (also on the teeter) looking like we're running through mist...it's really backlit, but a very cool effect.  On all pages, look for the blur o' fur!

Greetings from freezing California! Max and I competed in our first CPE agility trial this past weekend.  What a way to work off too much turkey! Despite endless amounts of weather (BAD fog on Friday, heavy rain on Saturday), we made the 2-hour-each-way drive to Elk Grove on Friday and Saturday - I got tired and pooped out on Sunday. I was really looking at this venue as a chance for more ring practice but it worked out well and we had a blast.  On Friday especially, we felt fast and I mean border-collie fast!   AND we did well: 3 placements and 4 Qs!  Max even got his first CPE title - CL1-H - from 2 of his qualifying runs on Friday!  We also got some very nice compliments from people on how well-behaved the Maxman was and how well we worked together in the ring and everyone wanted to know who I got him from and who his parents were - so thank you Beth and Jane! :)  I of course was the endlessly proud mom of my sweet, smart boy who's kicking agility butt and having fun doing it, and he's still only 2 years old!

Farley competed in agility for the first time this weekend--I don't think BAD has any other dogs doing CPE agility does it? Anyway, he ran in Level 1 Snooker, Wildcard, Colors, Fullhouse and Jumpers which are all CPE games--there was no Standard course offered this weekend.

March 19, 2006 - Farley's C-ATCH

We did it! Missed it with a no contact on the A-frame in the gamble on Saturday, but got a wicked "non-traditional" Jackpot today--would you believe 10 Qs for all Levels/Jump Heights (approximately 115 dogs total minus a few scratches). Really glad I do NADAC Tunnelers--the gamble was four tunnels to be done in 17 seconds (18 for small dogs) with all kinds of specific rules about when and how they had to be taken of course--lots of ways to do it wrong (about 105, I guess). But anyway we got it. He also had an excellent weekend in everything else (9 Qs total for 10 runs).

<< Since I couldn't head north for the NCBCF Regional
Spice, Lexus and I attended our first CPE trial here in town.
Most of us had never done a CPE trial so there was a great deal
of laughter and encouragement as we attempted to learn the rules
for each of the games that we had never played. Everyone jumped
in to work the rings, build courses and do whatever needed to
be done. It really reminded me of the old days when trials were
few and far between. The games really give the older dog, like
Lexus, a chance to play without over extending themselves. As
always she is steady and does her job and than leaps for joy at
the end of a run...she is a good partner. Spice enjoyed herself
immensely, often forgetting that yellow is a good thing. Full
House was the most fun of all and I must admit I did get a little
greedy and lost some points heading for the table because "one
of us" took a tunnel on the way. It's good to have a venue
that is dedicated to lower stress and more fun. I'm ready for
the next one! We will be doing very little trialing during May
and trying some other things for fun.- Patti>>

First time CPE - and new stats!



We went to a CPE (Canine Performance Events) agility trial
this weekend, and we absolutely loved their runs and games! It's
alot like NADAC, but the courses are smoother, and actually more
fun.



Lakotah! got 7 legs in the two days, and she seemed to love
the casualness and fun of it also. I'm looking forward to doing
more CPE. Judges Joan and John Marek of IL have a gorgeous setup
at their place. They have 11 acres, and it's entirely fenced in
so no dogs can get anywhere. There's two rings set up, and now
they're doing both CPE and UKC there (and in the future may do
NADAC, USDAA, and AKC). There's a huge "dog-pond" for
the dogs to utilize, and fields galore where they can run off-leash.
It's just idyllic - and is only 2 1/2 hrs from my home! We're
looking forward to going to lots of trials there - and Joan and
John couldn't be better hosts.



If any of you get a chance to try CPE, I'd highly recommend
it. It's a blast, and is catching on very quickly here in the
Midwest.
