After months of preparation, it's hard to believe that our Regional Agility Trial has come and gone! In all, 24 Beardies from California, Nevada, Oregon and Washington participated.

I want to thank all of you for your help in pitching in to make this a happy, smoothly running event! Jana Dozet did a great job as Chief Ring Steward! I really appreciated all of the score table help from Gayle Dozet, Barbara Stone, and Rhonda Hardy and the lovely trophies chosen by Sharon Prassa and Pat Palozzola. Since so many of you helped, please give yourselves a pat on the back for a well-run trial! Thank you, thank you!

On Wednesday evening, after our two herding trials, Pat Palozzola, Pam Harris, Jana Dozet, Gayle Dozet, Barbara Claxton, Rosanne Hunt, Sharon Prassa and several other club members and guests arrived to help Agility Chair, Jack Buhite, set up the rings and tents for Obedience, Rally, Agility, and Hospitality. Afterwards we had a lovely dinner with Judge Pam Richcreek where we shared all kinds of personal stories and laughs.

When we arrived at 7:00 on Thursday morning, everything was ready to go for Obedience, chaired by Charlotte Riegelhuth. Barbara Claxton was on hand with all kinds of goodies for breakfast. Novice Obedience and Rally had a very high qualifying rate.

Our Agility Judge, Pam Richcreek, made a point of coming early to watch the agility folk do Obedience and Rally.

Tammy and Chris Domico arrived just before the Rally walk-through with the Agility Equipment and the course building seemed to go smoothly with many helping hands.

At 11:15 all gathered for a group photo by Chris Wynn of Tien Tran photo and we were ready to begin the agility trial. Silvina Bruera of Agility In Motion recorded everything from beginning to end.

Everyone enjoyed Pam Richcreek's courses and I am looking forward to hearing more details from those who ran them.

Our first two dogs on the line (Star and Chipper) qualified in Excellent B Standard and I was hoping for a repeat of last year where 6 out of 6 qualified in Ex B JWW. But, it was not to be. Nevertheless, many qualified and we have three new titlists.

High In Trial

The Highs in Trial went to Jana Dozet's Star, who had the only Ex B 2Q, and to Kathy Haas' Godiva. Jana made the trip from Nevada and Kathy came down from Washington state.

Highs in Trial are based on yards/second with small additive factors to compensate for course difficulty at the higher levels.

Standard High In Trial - 1st/23
100 - 52.07'/ 65'
179 yds / (52.07 - 5 table) = 3.8 yds/sec + .2 for Excellent = 4 yds/sec

Star - Handler: Jana Dozet
Ch Spindrift Catch A Risa Star, AX, MXJ, PT

Bearded Collie. Bitch. DL780009/05. 2/17/99.
Breeders: Jana Dozet and Pam Harris
Ch Nonesuch New Sensation, OA, OAJ x Spindrift Best of Both Worlds, OA, OAJ, PT
Owners: Jana Dozet and Pam Harris

Star also took HIT in Standard last year from Excellent A and now needs only one leg for her MX!
______________________

Jumpers with Weaves High In Trial - 1st/24
100 - 28.03'/ 36'
126 yds / 28.03' = 4.495 yds/sec + .1 for Open = 4.595 yds/sec

Godiva - Handler: Kathy Haas
Meadows Unique Sensation, NA, NAJ

Bearded Collie. Bitch. DL875203/02. 3/25/01.
Breeders: Claudia McNulty
Ch Meadow's Real Sensation x Ch Meadow's Only In A Dream
Owners: Larry A. and Kathryn L. Haas, Claudia McNulty

Kathy is our newest BAD member.

From Judge Pam Richcreek

4/23/05

Hi Libby, First of all, thank you so much for the wonderful personalized gear bag I received as a judge's gift! I will use it proudly at all our upcoming trials! Judging for your club has been one of the most pleasant assignments I've had, and I will be relaying that information on to AKC in my judge's report. Thanks, again, for all of your hard work in putting the event together. -- Pam

From Silvina Bruera-Agility In Motion Videography

4/25/05

Thank you for the trial info. I think I will include the age of each Beardie as it was a pleasant surprise for me to learn that Caper is 10 years young as well as Chipper and Trouble is 11 !!! Hope you had a great time at your Specialty, I sure did at the Agility show. -- Love, Silvina

From Dawn Kinney who made her agility debut at the Regional:

4/24/05

Libby, While I was waiting for Buffy to be born four years ago, I went to my first NCBCF Specialty. I didn't know a soul, but it turned out that it didn't matter because everyone was friendly and gracious. I loved it that the competitors cheered for each other. It was clear that agility was the way to build a strong fun relationship with my new Beardie and doing it among Beardie people was even better.

During our first year and a half together, Buffy and I took a bunch of obedience classes and often I would get these frowns from teachers because Buffy barked too much or was too reactive to other dogs. While I know that agility is not like that, I really wanted our first competition to be at our Specialty.

I was a nervous wreck Thursday, but it is funny how the right demeanor from others can make all the difference. The first instance was Judge Pam Richcreek. The second was at the start line, I couldn't get Buffy's agility lease off over her head, and someone quietly said, "It's okay take your time." Kinder words have rarely been spoken. These two things really calmed me down before it effected Buffy -- but then she pretty cool.

I know in the future that we will probably have few competitions with 2 runs with 100 scores, but hopefully, we will have as much fun in all our runs to come.

Thank you
Dawn and Buffy

Libby, Thanks so much for the wonderful write up on the agility trial this year. I certainly missed being there and kept looking at the clock on Thursday and wondering who was doing what! It is amazing how everyone can get together and make things happen so that everyone has a great time. Congratulations to each team that ran and did their very best. We all love to qualify but it is still great fun to be with a bunch of Beardie folks doing what we all love to do. Special congratulations go out to Jana and Star that stay so steady and together when the pressure is on them. - Patti and Spice
