Judge Christie Bowers

"I have been judging agility for about 8 years and have loved having the opportunity to meet so many wonderful dogs and people. One of my favorite assignments are judging Specialties. There is such a fun atmosphere of showcasing the breed. The Bearded Collie National Specialty at Purina Farms was no exception- except you guys are a bit more crazy and fun than other breeds!!! Purina Farms did an awesome job providing a facility that show-cased such a fun breed. I loved watching the hair fly around the ring and the non-stop barking. There were some awesome runs! The comradery among the competitors was so nice to see. Specialties should be about everyone cheering everyone on and congratulating the winners and the first timers and the Bearded Collie Club of America was a great example of this. The Relay race was so much fun to judge- watching the young and the old having a great time. The banquet afterwards was a nice finish to a great day. The club did an awesome job with workers and hospitality. It will definitely go down as one of my favorite assignments. Kudos to the club and all their hard work."

Show Chair Joanne Williamson:

"The final numbers on agility entries are 72 Beardies and 221 runs. That's alomst half the Beardies in the US that do AKC agility."

“Thanks to Cheri and her committee for planning and running the largest and best BCCA Nationals agility trial to date! Thanks also to everyone who pitched in on the day and and worked. The site was terrific and the Beardies were FABULOUS. The results are below. If you'd like a copy of the pdf file please contact me. Congratulations to all!”

Joanne's Beardies won three BCCA Awards this year!

Trial Chair Cheri Omnus:

What a great day we had at the 2013 BCCA National Specialty Agility Day with the highest entries to date! We ran 10 classes plus the relay so it was a fun filled day. Christie Bowers was awesome. She had nice courses, was very nice to the handlers and really kept the day moving along. She is great to work with and a lot of fun. The relay and the end was a hoot! The dogs were all barking so the noise level was off the charts but what a great way to end the day. Very fun.

I would like to thank my committee, David Williamson, Bobbie Raguse, Kathy Tomlinson and Cheryl Poliak for a great job. David put in many hours of work and it was such a bummer that he was not able to attend. They had a change in his school policy that would not allow him to take those days off and it just happened a week or so ago. We have a local trial secretary that is very good and is stepping in for us so we are covered but it won't be the same. He has worked very hard and I've so enjoyed working with him and really wanted to meet him in person.

I would also like to thank everyone who pitched in and worked or helped out. I had some friends that help with the course building which really helped kept things moving along. Thank you, thank you, thank you to all!!

Awards

High in trial in Standard was Heather Bradham with Boing.

High in Trial in JWW was Jill Scarborough with Shug.

High in Trial Fast was Ann Chandoha with Razz.

First Place in Time2Beat Regular was Heather Bradham with Boing.

First Place in Time2Beat Preferred was Dianna Anderson with Logan.

The winners of the relay were: Team Black, Brown and Beige: Heather Bradham with Boing, Larry Dalan with Pip, Diane Lipman with Paige.

The Event Center at Purina Farms is a beautiful facility and a great place for all dog events. I hope the BCCA will plan another National at Purina Farms in the future. It really was a fun and special day.

The BAD dinner went well. It was a small group of 20, 25? Christie was at the dinner and she passed out the BAD Person of the Year Awards to Lori Weisberg and Andrea Hobe. She read some of the remarks. She also read mine, David Williamson's and Jack Buhite's. I explained that there were 4 winners and the choices were pretty regional. I did call David when I got back to the hotel on Monday night to tell him about the day and his award.

Personal Comments - Lori Weinberg

BAD Person of the Year with top BCCA/AKC Beardie

The 2013 BCCA Nationals at Purina Farms was the perfect place to celebrate the accomplishments of the Beardie Agility community. It was a sight to behold when you get over 70 Bearded Collies at one site playing agility. Can you say high energy? Well that only begins to describe it!

You asked that we share our photos and comments from the 2013 BCCA National Specialty. Here is my new favorite photo of Rocky and me. Rocky is a very young 12 + years. He and I have been competing in agility for a little over 10 years. Rocky has only run in the jumpers preferred class over the last year. On Monday September 30th at the BCCA Specialty, Rocky and I ran his final run in competition. In typical fashion, our run started just like every other run over the last 10 years. We walked to the start line and Rocky is barking his head off, he gave me a 2 second stay, long enough for me to turn and face the correct direction and we were off to the races. During the run we were well connected and worked every challenge as a team. We completed the course running clean for the blue ribbon! At the end of the run Rocky is jumping and barking and grabbing his leash to tug. He burned up the course at 5.89 yards per second. Not bad at all for 12+ years old. I am thankful that Rocky is happy and healthy and was able to run at the National Specialty. Rocky and I are ready now to move on to a new chapter together. The photo I have attached from the Specialty sums it all up for Rocky and me. He is my pal!

On a personal level, I also was able to celebrate with others Blade and my accomplishments over the past year. I know that each one of us works very hard to train and play the sport of agility with our bearded pals. Yes, the first and most important goal is always to have fun. The bonus is the green ribbon, the placement ribbon, the new title, the MACH, being ranked top in breed by AKC, and receiving the top awards from the BCCA. I feel very fortunate that Blade and I have been able to achieve so much. I am over the moon thrilled to have received the High in Jumpers Trophy in honor of Mirage, the Ryan Award for Excellent B JWW and the Diehard Trophy for 2012. A total surprise was being one of four individuals to share the honor of being BAD Member of the Year for 2013. I want to thank the BCCA committee for allowing us to take the perpetual trophies home for the year. I had this lovely photo taken of Blade showing the top BCCA trophies as well as his other accomplishments over the past 18 months. I am hopefully for many more years of fun ahead for Blade and me!

In 2001, Beth Canner and Gail Romaine began a new Specialty tradition: a Fun Relay to encourage Novice handlers. Gretchen Blackburn designed a banner based on Sharon Prassa's "Flying Annie." The Bearded Collie Club of America holds this Relay at the Nationals after the regular trial
events for the day are finished. This year teams of 3 from all levels of experience competed on a simple course, consisting of jumps and tunnels, suitable for Novice dogs.
