FAST (Fifteen And Send Time)

FAST is a new AKC titling game.  Competition in this game was initiated on January 1, 2007.  In order to qualify, a team must accumulate a certain number of points (50 for Novice, 55 for Open, 60 for Excellent) and successfully complete a distance challenge in a fixed amount of time (for 20" dogs, 32 seconds are allowed; preferred competitors get 3 additional seconds).  Each obstacle on the course is assigned a point value.  The maximum number of points possible is 80; no one attained a perfect score in 2007.  Beardies have proved to be quite adept at this fast paced and challenging game of strategy.  The number of FAST titles decreased (76 in 2007, the first year of FAST competition vs 51 in 2008).

For each class the average scores have been tabulated; for Excellent B only, the number of legs earned is indicated.  The BCCA Agility committee will be considering adding FAST awards to the agility program in the coming year.

AKC - American Kennel Club Report for 2008

Summary Statistics for 2008, thanks to Joanne Williamson:

161 Beardies earned a total of 1,908 legs in the Regular, Preferred and FAST classes with 943 placements in all breed and Specialty competition.  113 of these teams accounted for 214 total titles (93 Novice, 48 Open, 40 Excellent, 25 Masters, and 8 Championships).   The level of participation in the Regular classes was up 4% from 2007 but fewer titles were earned (256 in 2007 vs 214 in 2008) primarily because of a decrease in the number of FAST titles (76 in 2007, the first year of FAST competition vs 47 in 2008).   The number of Beardies competing in the Preferred classes dropped from 28 in 2007 to 19 in 2008.    Five teams competed at the 3rd AKC Agility Invitational in Long Beach, CA.  Linda Porter and Mika (Fox Lane’s Mika At Tweeddale) made the finals and placed 3rd in the 20” class and 4th overall in the Herding group.   Six teams qualified and two teams competed at the 2009 AKC National Championships held in Concord, NC in March, 2009.  Sarah Halsey and Wizard (Anasazi Secret Of The Wizard) added to their record of Beardie agility “Firsts” by earning their MACH8.  Jeff Ipser and Zoom (Wigglesworth Super Sonic) became the first team to finish three MACH titles (5, 6, and 7) in one year.  Pat Morse and Rooter completed the first XFP.  Heather Gahres and Elton (Brampton’s Pinball Wizard) earned the first NF from Novice A.

The 2009 AKC National Agility Championships

27, 28, 29 March 2009 in Concord, NC

In order to qualify for the 2009 Nationals held in Concord, North Carolina this March, a team had to earn at least 400 points and 6 QQs (qualify in both Excellent B Standard and Jumpers With Weaves on the same day) between December 1, 2007 and November 31, 2008.  Eleven Beardies had either the 6 QQs or the 400 points but not both.

The following six teams were eligible to compete:

Anasazi Secret Of The Wizard (Wizard) and Sarah Halsey of Fallbrook, CA
Britannia Flashback (Flash) and Joanne Williamson  of Boxborough, MA
Colquhoun’s No Time To Relax (Miller) and Karen Barratt of Galveston, TX
Fox Lane’s Mika At Tweeddale (Mika) and Linda Porter of Hagerstown, MD
Shanaspree Rose Of Kilravock (Kira) and Bobbie Raguse  of Indianapolis, IN
Wigglesworth Super Sonic (Zoom) and Jeff Ipser  of Auburn, OH

The 2008 AKC / Eukanuba Agility Invitational

13-14 December 2008 in Long Beach, CA

Congratulations to Linda Porter and Mika, Foxlane's Mika At Tweeddale, Bobbie Raguse and Kira, Shanaspree Rose Of Kilravock and Jeff Ipser and Zoom, Wigglesworth Super Sonic for their outstanding performances at the AKC/Eukanuba Agility Invitational!  Linda and Mika earned a 3rd place/90 in the 20" class and 4th place/77 in the Agility Herding Group.  They had five clean runs and the 3rd fastest time in the finals.  Bobbie Raguse and Kira had a 12th place finish with three clean runs and a 97 and were only ONE place out of the finals! Jeff Ipser and Zoom finished in 15th place with three clean runs and a 95.  It is amazing to think that Beardies took three out of the top fifteen places in this all-breed, best of the best trial. Sarah Halsey's Wizard, MACH8 ADCH Anasazi Secret of the Wizard MXF, and Karen Barratt's Miller, CH MACH Colquhoun's No Time To Relax MXF, also had several clean runs.  Beardies were well represented indeed!

Championship (MACH) Points- 50 Earned Points & 2Qs in 2008

There are no BCCA Awards based on MACH points and 2Qs but AKC does keep track of these and bases breed ratings and qualification for the Invitational on the values.  Beardies may be few in number but they are mighty in agility and there is plenty of competition for the five slots to the Invitational in Long Beach, CA.  The BCCA award year runs from January 1 to December 31, so these standings may be different than those of the Invitational which runs from July 1- June 30.  Jeff Ipser and Zoom (Wigglesworth Super Sonic) earned the most MACH points and 2Qs for 2008.
